MedCity21 and Science Building opening ceremonies
On 10 April 2014 OCU officially opened MedCity21 and the Science Building Shared Laboratory Facility.
The opening ceremony of the MedCity21 Premier Preventive Medicine Research Center, located on the 21st floor of the Abeno Harukas Building, started at 16:00. The tape-cutting took place after speeches by OCU President Nishizawa and the Vice-Director of the OCU Hospital’s Division of Premier Preventive Medicine, Professor Kawada, who explained the activities of MedCity21.
After the ceremony everyone was allowed to freely view the facilities. MedCity21 is the first clinic set up by a public university in Japan. With more than 100 people gathering for the opening ceremony, we look back on a successful event.
Medcity21 will focus on preventive health, through health promotion and early detection and treatment. It will also try to prevent illnesses through preemptive treatment to stop diseases from developing. With its convenient location and access to the high-skilled specialists at the Osaka City University Hospital, the clinic will aim to contribute to the extension of everybody’s healthy life expectancy.

The tape-cutting for the opening of the Science Building Shared Laboratory Facility took place at 14:00 on the same day with a performance by the OCU Supporters and a speech by OCU President Nishizawa.
After the ceremony, the nameplate for the sakura trees that were planted through a kind donation by the Habatake Yume Fund was presented, followed by the unveiling of the university nameplate at the start of Zelkova-street.?
